Do Overs . . .
Sometimes it is nice to rest in the fact that we are not perfect people and our children are not perfect children. Until we get to Heaven, we will have that stamp of being imperfect. Does that give us an excuse to not try our best or be lazy? Of course not! We must always put our best foot forward and work hard every day to be the person God has called us to be. But we can also recognize that grace is a big part of our life and grace is what God gives us when we make mistakes or fall short. And I for one, am so thankful for that.
That is where “do overs” help tremendously. If, as a parent, you can recognize when you have blown it, ask for forgiveness from your child and then ask for a “do over”, what a great example to your child of so many virtues. It shows them that even parents make mistakes. It shows them even parents have to ask for forgiveness. It shows them even parents can try, try again. “Do overs” are how we learn to be better and take the high road. They propel us to answer to a higher calling that humbles us and makes us real people to our children.
And pretty soon, you will hear your child ask, “Can I have a “do over” and then you know it clicked!!
