Empathy

Empathy for other people is one of the most important characteristics we can impart to children. Many times children are so absorbed in their own world, they don't even know how to think of others. So we have to model for them how to give of our time and talents to others. Do you ever take baked cookies to a neighbor who is struggling or chicken soup to someone feeling ill? We are so removed from the days of doing neighborly, friendly gestures. Therefore, our children have no example to follow. Reach out and see what activities in your community you can help with that your children can participate in as well. Let's get back to being a more empathetic nation and it begins at home.
